Summer Sabbath

Hi Everyone,

One of the healthiest things we can do is to observe a Sabbath in our own lives. Sabbath means a time of rest after laboring. It carries the idea of celebrating rest or salvation – a time to celebrate the Lordship of God. Sabbath is really a gift of God and from God to us. Spiritually it is a reminder that we can rest and while we rest, God is still working on our behalf and that our salvation is a free gift from God to us – we can neither earn it nor do we deserve it.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is a gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

- Ephesians 2:8-10

Sabbath rest is a gift we shouldn’t miss out on! Especially in these days, following a two-year pandemic, a current recession and all of the stressful issues we are facing globally and personally, we need a reset and to get back in rhythm with God. This summer is the perfect time to make use of the gift of a Sabbath.

I know I am in need of a Sabbath rest – a time to rest, relax, and reset. I plan on taking time to do things that enrich my mind, body and soul. I look forward to spending time with family, walking my dogs on some great trails, playing golf, running, walking on the beach and doing some mindless things that don’t require deep thought. I also plan to get away to do some journaling and introspection this summer that I haven’t done the past two years to help me reconnect with who God has created me to be. And I also plan to be quiet to hear the voice of the Lord speak to me in new and fresh ways – in prayer and through reading, not to develop articles or messages, but just for me.

I look forward to this year’s summer Sabbath. And because of that, I won’t be writing this blog again until September. I hope you also experience the gift of Sabbath this summer for your life.

See you in September!

Jack
